TAKEUCHI “LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT” FOR EARTHWORM EXCAVATIONS

Western Sydney contractor selects Takeuchi TL6R track loader for major residential development earthworks.

Sydney’s boom in large-scale residential development and construction has put deadline pressure on contractors to complete a high volume of work.

Earthworm Excavations is a contractor that provides comprehensive site preparation packages that include excavation and landscaping, concreting, fencing, infrastructure and other services.

“Our seven machines and 16 operators are kept very busy performing work on projects for some of Australia’s biggest names in large-tract residential development. So far, we have completed site works and landscaping for 200 new homes and we have many more to complete,” said Earthworm Excavations’ Dave Butfield.

“Checking out the market for some new equipment to give us improved productivity, we recently decided on purchasing the latest Takeuchi TL6R track loader. We have been using a skid steer for some time, however we wanted to see how a tracked loader would perform on our job sites.

“We needed a compact loader that was small enough to give us the flexibility on typical residential site development particularly with the ability to manoeuvre down driveways and into garage spaces. It’s a great size and fits inside the dimensions of house garages, which makes it a very versatile machine, using a 4-in-1 bucket and a broom attachment, the latter of which is used for cleaning roads at site exits.

“The pickup load capacity of 835 kilograms is excellent and even conservative. At this rated weight, the machine never feels under stress and there’s enough reach over the side of a bogie tipper for loading.

“The downside with some of the skid steers is the feeling of instability under a full load. On the other hand, the track machine feels more stable and safe, with the extra weight of all muscle in the back end thanks to an efficient and thoughtful design that eliminates need for a counterweight.

“From an operator’s viewpoint there’s heaps of room in the cabin. The air conditioner is very efficient and the sound level in the cabin is fine, even when working all day.

“We’re also happy the TL6R includes all the little extras such as pressure release valve, two speeds, extra hydraulics and a reversing camera.  Controls are all very easy and the hydraulic pilot control system gives the machine’s operator a comfortable, positive feel that enables very direct and precise operation”, said Dave.

Operator comfort

Also handy for safety is the TL6R’s large LED work lights for those times you really need to see your work in low-light visibility. For the operator’s comfort, there’s a full-size suspension high back seat that gives additional support and significantly reduces vibration for less fatigue and makes the work space more comfortable. Other comfort touches include cup holders, a phone charging port and a radio.

Great value

“The TL6R is great value for money and has definitely lived up to our expectations for power and productivity. It’s been worked solidly since day one on the job site and more than up to every task we have asked it to perform. It has demonstrated more pushing power than we have been accustomed to, particularly on muddy surfaces”, Dave concluded.

TAKEUCHI TL6R LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT TRACK LOADER

When it comes to all-round performance, contractors and operators are looking for the most compact equipment that’s going to reliably deliver the most power when using any ground-engaging tools and attachments.

The Takeuchi TL6R compact track loader has finally arrived and will satisfy the demands of owners of the highly popular TL120 and TL220 models, who have been eagerly waiting on the release of this gutsy new machine.

This is the latest model from this Japanese equipment manufacturer which has established a global reputation for its innovative, high quality engineering, superb performance and machines that provide superior operator comfort and investment value. Takeuchi pioneered the mini crawler loader, releasing their TL15 and TL 20 models in 1986…way before rubber tracks were introduced.

Advanced technology
Representing a significant advance in technology and construction compared with earlier models, the radial-lift Takeuchi TL6R compact track loader is small enough for easy truck or trailer loading for road transport to and from job sites. Despite its compact design, it packs a punch in the power department, while its cleverly designed cabin easily accommodates generously proportioned operators.

One of the first things you notice is the low-profile cabin height of 1975mm; low enough to allow the loader to be driven through the door openings in most residential carports and garages. This feature is great when a landscaper or plumbing contractor needs access to the back yard of an existing structure where materials need to be hauled from a street kerb.

Staying in control
Ask any operator and they’ll tell you that power and positive controls are what makes the job easier. The TL6R is equipped with a powerful tier 4 final 48kW engine. The loader’s active power control helps operators to maintain maximum engine power for optimal performance in all ground conditions and while using a range of attachments.

Takeuchi engineers have also focused on control systems by fitting the TL6R with a redesigned hydraulic pilot control system that gives the machine’s operator a comfortable, positive feel that enables very direct and precise operation. The Takeuchi joystick system has been widely regarded as one of the industry’s best and has been further refined in the TL6R.

The loader’s power plant enables the machine to comfortably handle an impressive 835kg operating load (rated at just 35 percent of tipping), while safety is first and foremost with the provision of a built-in reversing camera displaying an expansive view of what lies behind, via a large 5.7-inch LCD dash panel screen.

Reduction of cabin sound levels and vibration has also been a redesign objective, achieved by re-engineering an already sophisticated design undercarriage and quiet ride tracks.

Sharing a new undercarriage design with other recent model Takeuchi track loaders, the triple flange track rollers used in the TL6R have been redesigned to minimise the de-tracking risk for those times when an operator may forget to make wider turns, traverses slopes sideways or encounters other conditions that may cause this costly and time-consuming track issue.

Operator comfort
For low light conditions, illumination has been enhanced with large LED work lights that improve the level of low-light visibility, while reducing power consumption. For the operator’s comfort, a new design full-size suspension high back seat gives additional support and further reduces vibration to reduce fatigue and make the work space more comfortable. For operators completing a full day shift, there are cup holders, a phone charging port and a radio.

Changing attachments is also effortless by using the hydraulic quick hitch. The operator doesn’t have to manually unlock the hitch to change attachments. Additional efficiency is provided by a wiring harness that allows electrically controlled attachments to be plugged straight in without the added cost of wiring them into the machine.

Its size, power and features make the Takeuchi TL6R compact excavator the perfect choice for professional landscapers, builders, general contractors and rental companies.
